Bicycle Patrol

The bicycle units of The Parkersburg Police Department patrol the city with a community oriented approach to policing. While on the bicycles it is easier for officers to interact with the community.  The bicycle patrol officers volunteer for this special duty.  To apply to participate in bicycle patrol officers must have at least two years experience as a Parkersburg Police Officer and must successfully complete a 40 hour training course which focuses on handling the bicycles in various terrains and maneuvering around, through, and over a variety of obstacles encountered in an urban environment.  Often officers elect to perform bicycle patrols in addition to their regularly scheduled shifts.
