Uniform Division
The Uniform Division of the Parkersburg Police Department consists of the Officers who are visible in the community 24 hours a day. These officers are the face of the Police Department and are the image most often envisioned when anyone speaks of a Police Officer. These officers serve on what some call the front lines of public safety and are ready at every moment to protect the community.
Uniform Division officers respond to 911 calls which include shoplifting, traffic crashes, stolen property, directing traffic, and so much more.
Duties required of Uniform Division Officers:
- complete initial case reports,
- complete initial investigations,
- collect, preserve, and record evidence,
- obtain warrants or issue citations for violations,
- apprehend wanted persons,
- conduct traffic crash investigations,
- complete service of Domestic Violence Protective Orders and Personal Safety Orders,
- testify in court,
- and other related work as required.
Officers throughout the Police Department also volunteer for extra details outside of their regular working hours. These additional details are referred to as "Off Duty" and include such things as working security at high school athletic events and organized community events, traffic control for parades, and much more.
